WYANDOTTE COUNTY —The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the driver who died in a crash that occurred just before 3a.m. Saturday in Wyandotte County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2005 Ford Focus driven by Jennifer Cavazos, 45, Kansas City, Kansas, was northbound on the ramp from Kansas Avenue to northbound Interstate 635. The vehicle crossed the centerline of the ramp and struck the barrier wall with the front drivers side tire.
The vehicle than traveled off the left side of the roadway and began to slide. The driver regained control and the vehicle entered northbound Interstate 635 from the right shoulder, crossed all northbound lanes and the inside shoulder and struck the northbound median barrier wall head-on.
EMS transported Cavazos to KU Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
