BROWN COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating
Just before 10:30 a.m., Oct. 12, the Brown County law enforcement dispatch received a call about a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road on Prairie near 280th with an individual possibly passed out, according to Sheriff John Merchant.
Deputies arrived and a male subject later identified as 50-year-old William Smalley of Independence, Missouri, was outside of the vehicle.
As deputies approached, Smalley got back in to the vehicle. Upon speaking with Smalley, he gave deputies false information when asked for identification. Deputies also determined that the license plate on the vehicle was expired and came back to an entirely different vehicle.
Smalley refused to comply with a request to exit the vehicle and obtained possession of a small black bag that was within his reach.
Deputies subsequently removed Smalley and after a short struggle placed him under arrested.
The black bag had fallen to the ground during the struggle and contained a 9mm pistol which was in plain view.
Only minor injuries were reported by the two deputies. Smalley is being held on requested charges of Aggravated Assault, Obstruction, Illegal Registration, No Proof of Insurance,Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
