SEDGWICK COUNTY —After heavy rain on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for portions of the Sedgwick County area.  Wichita Police asked driver to "stay off the roadways. All Sedgwick County First Responders are extremely busy with calls for service including attempting to assist people who have become stranded in flood waters."

"Keep yourself safe so our officers can maneuver around the city to respond to priority calls for service."

According to the weather service, "The City of Augusta is barricading numerous areas around town due to impassable roadways. Please stay home." TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN."

"Just because rainfall is on the downtrend does not mean it is safe to drive around. Excessive runoff continues to lead to flooded roadways in the Wichita Metro, and will so for the next several hours. Please stay home if it's not an emergency."

In Sumner County, northbound Interstate 35 was temporarily closed between Wellington and Belle Plaine due water over the road.  U.S. 81 north of Wellington and K-55 near Belle Plaine were also closed due to flooding, according to KanDrive.
