It has jokingly been referred to as the Northern Barton County junk exchange, but once a year, the City of Hoisington allows residents set trash and even large items near their curbs to be picked up.

The Annual Fall Clean-Up is Oct. 8-9. Hoisington Code Enforcement Officer Dolores Kipper says items must be bagged, boxed or bundled together and preferably sorted.

"Use separate piles," said Kipper. "Don't mix it all together. For an example, keep all lumber, wall coverings, floor coverings, roofing materials, wood products, drywall and insulation together."

Residents should place items by their front curb no more than two days prior to their regular day of trash pickup. Construction materials produced by contract work will not be accepted. There will be a $25 charge for any appliance set out that contains freon.

"There is a minimal charge for tires with or without rims," said Kipper.

Stutzman Refuse Disposal will not pick up hazardous waste, tree limbs, rocks, bricks or other yard waste. The Barton County Landfill accepts hazardous waste the third Saturday of each month from April through October for 8 a.m. to noon.

For questions regarding the Annual Fall Clean-Up you can call Stutzman Refuse at 620-662-2559 or the City of Hoisington at 620-653-4125.
