SEDGWICK COUNTY— A Kansas woman, shot in the foot by her 2-year-old was sentenced this week in Sedgwick County.
According to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office, 22-year-old Kianna Jweji was sentenced to 12 months probation. She pleased guilty in July to aggravated endangerment of a child and possession of marijuana.
Just after 11:30a.m. Jan. 12, police were dispatched to a shooting in the 1200 block of North Lorraine in Wichita, according to Officer Chad Ditch.
While Officers were en route to the scene, a suspect later identified as Newji's 25-year-old boyfriend Marlon M. Jones fled on foot to a residence in the 3000 block of East 11th Street. As officers arrived, they saw Jones walking back from the area of that residence.
Officers then located Nweji inside her residence on North Lorraine with a gunshot wound to her foot. EMS transported her to a local hospital for treatment.
The investigation revealed that Nweji and Jones were both lying in bed when their 2-year-old child found a gun and accidentally shot Nweji.
Jones took the gun to the 11th Street address where an acquaintance of his lives, according to Ditch. Investigators located the gun and found an AR-15 that belonged to nobody in the residence and the individuals in the house did not know how it got there.
