The Great Bend City Council and the community have heard the new police station in town may cost upward of $7.3 million. Great Bend City Administrator Kendal Francis said the city is still working with the design and construction team on pricing, but the final figure should be presented to the city council soon.

The new police station will be built on the city-owned parking lot at the 12th Street & Baker Avenue intersection.

"We're looking at some pricing options on how we could bring the cost to better fit within the budget," said Francis. "I think we're very close to bringing a guaranteed maximum price to the council for approval."

GLMV Architecture is handling the design and drawings for the police station to replace the existing structure on Williams Street that was built in 1938.

The city has approximately $1.5 million in savings and the rest of the cost will come from the recently passed .10% sales tax increase for bond debt.
