11-year-old inside Kansas home struck in the head by gunfire

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating an overnight shooting that sent a boy to the hospital.

Just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday, police were in the area of the 1400 block of N. Lorraine in Wichita when they heard gunfire, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.

A church building, which four individuals occupied at the time, was struck by the gunfire; thankfully, no injuries were reported at the church. 

A second scene was identified in the 1400 block of N. Lorraine, where a residence had also been struck. An 11-year-old boy inside the residence sustained a non-life-threatening injury to the head. The child was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

This is an active investigation, and officers are actively following up on leads to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
