JACKSON COUNTY —A long-time cafe in northeast Kansas was destroyed in a fire on Friday.
Just after 4:30 a.m. Friday, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls reporting a fire at the Whiting Café, 308 Whiting Avenue in the small rural Kansas community of Whiting, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.
Fire departments from Whiting, Netawaka, Holton and Horton responded along with Jackson County EMS. Fire crews battled the blaze bringing the fire under control just before 7:30a.m. The Whiting Café has been in business nearly 40 years, and the establishment appeared to be a complete loss.
Friday morning the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene and was investigating the origin of the fire.
