Man charged in crash that killed 9-year-old Kansas boy

JOHNSON COUNTY —A man has been charged in connection with a crash that left a 9-year-old Kansas boy dead.

 Matthew Jacobo, 25,  Kansas City, Kansas, was charged with second degree murder, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of a firearm while driving under the influence, according to the Johnson County District Attorney's office.

Just before 7p.m. on December 1, police responded to a crash involving a white truck and a black sedan near Johnson Drive and Bell Road in Shawnee, Kansas, according to a media release.  EMS transported  nine-year-old Nolan Davidson of Lenexa to Children's Mercy in critical condition. He died December 7, according to a GoFundMe page for the family.

The driver of the truck later identified as Jacobo left the scene.  Police tracked him down and made an arrest later that night.

Nolan and his family were on their way from one basketball game to another when they were involved in the crash. The collision, impacted the rear passenger side where Nolan was seated.

Jacobo is being held on a $1 million bond. A preliminary hearing in the case has been set for Dec. 14 at 11 a.m.
