
KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement are investigating the death of a teenager in an apparent drive-by shooting in the north Kansas City community of Avondale Tuesday night.
Just after 9p.m., multiple 911 callers reported the sound of shots fired, according to a statement from the Clay County Sheriff's Office. Shortly thereafter, a caller reported someone had been shot in the 3200 block of N.E. Excelsior Street. The victim, a boy in his teens, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Detectives spoke to witnesses and gathered evidence. The Kansas City Police Crime Scene Investigations Unit is helping process the scene. Initially, it appears a drive-by shooting took place.
Investigators have identified a suspect vehicle.
The vehicle appears to be a dark blue or black 1996-98 Chevy Silverado Z71 4x4 with the driver’s side headlight out.
