SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas man is going to prison for a deadly incident that left a teen dead.

This week, Fabian Griffin, 49, Wichita, was sentenced to over 12 years in prison for an incident that involved the unsafe handing of a weapon that resulted in the death of a teen in 2017, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

In November of 2022 Griffin pled guilty to second-degree murder in the case.

Just after 11:30p.m. March of 2017, police responded to the 1700 block of South Yale in Wichita and found three people including Griffin, a 25-year-old and a teen later identified as  Casey Lawrukiewicz inside the home.

EMS transported Lawrukiewicz to a local hospital. He died on March 4, 2017.

The judge also ordered $5,000 in restitution to be reimbursed to the Kansas Crime Victims Fund, which paid for the cost of Lawrukiewicz's funeral, according to the district attorney's office.
