SEDGWICK COUNTY — On Tuesday evening, police arrested an off-duty Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office detention deputy following an alleged physical altercation with another off-duty detention deputy, according to Sheriff's Department spokesman Branden Stitt.

The incident was reported to WPD at 3:48 p.m. July 21, at an apartment complex in the 9000 block of E. Lincoln in Wichita.

Following its investigation, Wichita Police arrested Deputy Henry C. Kavenga, 39, of Wichita and booked him into the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility on requested misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property.

Deputy Kavenga has been employed by the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office since September 2025. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal and internal investigation. Because the criminal and internal investigations remain active, no additional information is available for release at this time.

The Sheriff's Office remains committed to upholding strong ethical standards and operating with integrity. When concerns arise involving any employee, the office takes immediate action to ensure accountability and maintain the confidence of the community it serves.
