SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas woman is going to prison in connection with the death of a man who fell from the hood of a stolen car.
On Friday, a judge sentenced 37-year-old Ashley Corley of Hutchinson to nearly 18-years in prison for the incident involving a stolen vehicle that took the life of 41-year-old Rigoberto Rivas, according to the Sedgwick County District attorney's office.
In October of 2022, police responded to 9th Street North and St. Paul in Wichita where they found Rivas in the street. He had head injuries and died at a local hospital, according to Officer Chad Ditch.
Investigators learned that Rivas and Corley were seen running toward a gray car parked on the curb at 9th Street. Corley allegedly entered the vehicle and drove away at a high rate of speed with Rivas on the hood. The car swerved and Rivas fell from the car.
A follow-up investigation led officers to believe the car was stolen.
Police investigators arrested Corley in Hutchison, transported her back to Wichita and booked her into the Sedgwick County Jail
