City of Wichita

The Wichita Police Department (WPD), working with Public Works & Utilities (PW&U), Parks & Recreation, and Stryker management are conducting an initial security assessment of the Stryker facility. Beginning today, PW&U will be installing temporary barriers at key locations around the Stryker Sports Complex until more permanent solutions can be implemented.

The facility reopened at 3 p.m. today, October 19. Specific programming information for the facility will be posted to Stryker's Facebook page facebook.com/SCHEELSStryker.

There is not an ongoing threat to the community, but WPD will be present at the facility this coming weekend. COMCARE will be on site today through Wednesdayfrom 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. for anyone seeking mental health assistance for themselves or their children. COMCARE of Sedgwick County is the largest Community Mental Health Center in Kansas and serves as the local mental health authority for Sedgwick County, providing public behavioral health and substance use services.

We understand there are many questions surrounding this tragic incident. We encourage you to rely only on information shared by WPD and not share unconfirmed or misinformation online.
