Police: Kansas bicyclist dies after struck by car

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a collision that fatally injured 56-year-old Sue Towles of Wichita.

Just before 9p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the 2900 block of South Oliver for a vehicle vs. bicyclist collision, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo.

First responders located Towles unconscious and not breathing. EMS pronounced her deceased on the scene.

The investigation revealed Towles was riding her bicycle southbound on Oliver in Wichita on the curb lane when a southbound 1997 Pontiac Bonneville driven by a 58-year-old man from Wichita struck her.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with authorities. The investigation of the circumstances of the collision is ongoing, according to Rebolledo.
