KC woman charged for kidnapping that prompted Amber Alert

KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City woman who entered another woman's vehicle and drove off with a 1-year-old child in the back seat, has been charged with kidnapping and other felony charges, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker. The incident caused law enforcement to issue an Amber Alert.

Trenise L Reid, 31, faces Child Kidnapping, a Class A felony, as well as Vehicle Hijacking and Endangering the Welfare of a Child

According to court records, the defendant took the victim’s vehicle with a 1-year-old child in the back seat at approximately 8:00 pm, as the victim's vehicle was outside an area school.

The victim had a one-year-old child in the backseat of the vehicle when it was taken by the defendant. Police in Lee's Summit found the stolen vehicle with the child inside at 9:41 pm; it was stopped in the middle of a road.

Police soon after initiated an Operation 100 to take the defendant into custody. She barricaded herself inside a restaurant.
