Barton Community College Athletic Director Trevor Rolfs said a deep study has taken place on the needs of the athletic department and where facilities could be improved. Heading into his 11th year as athletic director at Barton, Rolfs said he has made a list ranking facilities that are good, bad and in between.

Barton has engaged with a design/build firm to create drawings and rough drafts of potential improvements and new structures.

"We're extremely excited to share the plans with our supporters and those that govern the college very soon," said Rolfs. "It's been a long process that was halted last spring because of COVID-19."

Rolfs used the example of the college’s athletic training room as a possible repurposed project. With the growth in sports and athletes, Barton has outgrown their current training room. Rolfs noted the training room could be moved to the weight room and then a new facility could be built for the weight room.

"We're excited to get things 'real' on paper and video to show the vision of what we'd like to do moving forward," said Rolfs.

Prior to the pandemic last March, Rolfs stated his department was close to developing pictures and plans for an addition to the south side of the Kirkman Center, which houses the basketball gym.
