Police: Alcohol a possible factor in deadly KC hit-and run

KANSAS CITY—A driver is in custody after allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident just before 2a.m. Sunday in Kansas City.

According to KCPD Captain Corey Carlisle, a Ford F150 was southbound on North Oak at 82nd Street.  The pickup struck a southbound bicyclist in the #2 lane and did not stop. 

The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected off the bicycle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police later locate the pickup in the area of 79th and N. Oak and the driver was taken into custody, according to Carlisle.

The driver and passenger of the Ford were uninjured in the collision. The investigation, to include suspected impairment is ongoing. This is fatality #6 compared to #3 at this time last year, according to Carlisle.
