Kansas man dies in motorcycle, semi accident

SHERIDAN COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 10a.m. Friday in Sheridan County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2014 Kenworth semi driven by Luke D. Smith, 52, McDonald, was eastbound on U.S. 24 four miles west of Kansas 23 highway. The driver attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot. The semi turned in front of a westbound 2026 Kawasaki Sport driven by Micael Mast Roe, 70, Hoxie.  The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the semi.

Roe was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Mickey Leopold Funeral Home. Smith was not injured. Roe was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.

The crash temporarily closed U.S. 24 in both directions, west of Hoxie. The closure extended from County Road 20W, about two miles west of Hoxie, to County Road 50W, about five miles west of Hoxie.
