Suspect in Kan. stolen property investigation jailed after standoff

KANSAS CITY –Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after a standoff at a Kansas home.

Just after 9a.m. Friday, the Overland Park Police Department, assisted by the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, responded to the 500 block of Barnett Avenue in Kansas City, Kan. as part of a criminal investigation involving stolen property, according to a media release.

Upon arrival, a resident of the home granted officers consent to enter. Once inside, they observed a weapon and heard noises indicating that another individual remained inside the home.

Police then exited and Kansas City Kansas Police Department’s Special Operation Unit responded to the scene to execute a search warrant.

Traffic to the block was then temporarily closed to through traffic as a safety precaution. After approximately three hours, the suspect, wanted on federal charges, exited the home and was taken into custody without incident at approximately 12:45 p.m.

No use of force was employed, and neither the suspect nor officers were injured during the operation.

KCK Police and KCK Animal Services were called to the same address on May 5, on the report of a vicious dog attack on a pedestrian. At the time the dog was taken into custody by Animal Services and the residents of the home were cited for various city code violations related to the attack. These incidents remains under investigation by the Overland Park and Kansas City, Kansas Police Departments.  Police did not release the name of the suspect.
