DOUGLAS COUNTY—A Kansas man is going to prison for his role in an armed robbery.

Darren L. Henry, 31, of Topeka, was sentenced to 216 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for aggravated robbery in the armed holdup of a local convenience store, according to Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez.

The robbery happened at the Kwik Shop in the 800 block of Mississippi Street on Sept. 5, 2017.

According to court documents, Henry pointed a gun at the store’s clerk while grabbing money from a cash register before he fled the store.

“The use of a firearm when committing a criminal act is a serious threat to the public and erodes our sense of safety and security in our community,” District Attorney Valdez said.
