The utilities and water division of the Great Bend Public Works Department was approved for two new vehicles to replace aging trucks with mechanical issues. A 2001 Dodge with over 140,000 miles and a 2010 Ford F150 with more than 120,000 miles will be swapped out for a pair of 2021 Ford ¾ ton crew cab 4x4 trucks from Marmie Auto Group.

Public Works Director Jason Cauley says the department wanted to upgrade their trucks to ¾-ton, 4x4 crew cabs from ½ ton, two-wheel drives due to towing loads and moving crews to jobsites.

"We sometimes have difficulties accessing areas," said Cauley. "It can be hard to unload equipment and move the truck to the location."

Great Bend received three bids for the trucks. Marmies was the higher bid at $32,220 per vehicle by $500, but they were within the 5% local allowance per the city’s procurement policy.

The $64,440 price will come out the capital outlay fund.
