Prison for Christmas Eve overdose death of pregnant Kan. woman

JOHNSON COUNTY —A Kansas woman convicted in the overdose death of a pregnant woman is going to prison.

A woman will spend more than two decades behind bars for her role in the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn child in Roeland Park, Kansas.

Izabel Reed, 25, was sentenced to 25 years in prison, according to the Johnson  County District attorney's office. In February she pleaded no contest to two counts of distribution of drugs causing the death of Alexandrea Hunter, 31, and her unborn child on Dec. 24, 2023, in Roeland Park.

In June of 2025, Reed was charged with first-degree murder, distribution of drugs causing death, two counts of distribution of fentanyl and two counts of distribution of methamphetamine.
