Homicide: Police ID Kansas teen killed near car wash

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal Monday night shooting have identified the victim as 18-year-old Fernando Recio of Wichita.

Shortly before midnight on Monday, police were dispatched to the 2100 block of South Meridian in Wichita for a shooting that was reported at a car wash in that area, according to Officer Trevor Macey.

Upon arrival, police located Recio with a single gunshot wound. They began emergency lifesaving measures and EMS tranported Recio to an area hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances of the shooting and are asking the public for help with information in the case.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Police say a teen has died after being shot at a south Wichita car wash. The shooting happened just before midnight Monday, when police were called to the area for a report of a shooting. Officers who arrived on the scene found the teen with a gunshot wound to his neck.

Police say the teen was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His name was not immediately released. Homicide detectives are investigating and say they don't believe the shooting was random. No arrests had been reported or suspects named by Tuesday morning.
