Police: Kansas woman seriously injured in dog attack

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Two people were injured in a dog attack in Topeka.

Just after 12a.m. Friday, police responded to a disturbance involving a fight between individuals in the 2300 Block of SE Bellview Avenue in Topeka, according to a media release from Topeka Police.

The first officer on the scene observed two dogs attacking a woman. As the officer tried to help, the dogs became aggressive toward the officer.  In response the officer shot and killed one of the dogs.  Animal Control officers took the the second dog into custody. American Medical Response transported to woman to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Paramedics treated a second victim at the scene for minor injuries.  

Police identified the owner of the dogs and they are cooperating with investigators. Police released no additional details.
