KEARNY COUNTY—A southwest Kansas school district is investigating a computer hack and taking action so it does not happen again.
On Wednesday, USD 215/Lakin reported they learned an entity tried to gain access to the district's computer system through a copier server. According to a statement from Superintendent Clifford Williams, the district was able to quarantine the attempt quickly by shutting down the Wi-fi.
The district's technology engineer thoroughly evaluated the school's computer system and determined that there was a breach that was isolated to the copier server.
Student and employee information is safe. The district has added additional security to make sure a similar hack doesn't happen again.
