SEDGWICK COUNTY — A Kansas woman is going to prison for causing a crash involving multiple vehicle in 2022.

On Thursday a judge sentenced Paloma Adame to just more than 18-years in prison, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office. In March, Adame plead guilty to attempted first-degree murder and five counts of aggravated battery.

Just before 4p.m. October 23, 2022, deputies were dispatched to an injury accident at 143rd Street East and U.S. 54 in Sedgwick County involving eight vehicles, according to Lt. Nathan Gibbs.

First responders located several individuals with varying severity of injuries. Seven people  including Adame's 5-year-old daughter were transported to local hospitals.

All were treated and released from the hospital. Through the investigation it was found the 5-year-old was not properly restrained and Adame’s vehicle had been traveling at excessive speeds, according to Gibbs.

Investigators learned the computer on Adame's car showed that she was traveling 116 mph as she approached the red light at 143rd Street. Her vehicle struck the first car at 92 mph.
