Kan. man jailed for crash that killed woman, injured 6-year-old

JOHNSON COUNTY —Law enforcement investigating a fatal weekend crash have made an arrest.

The crash occurred just before 8a.m. Sunday when a vehicle driven by 38-year-old Jason E. Brumley of Emporia struck another vehicle driven by  76-year-old Sherry L. Pena  near southbound Interstate 35 and Sunflower Road, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's office.

Pena was pronounced dead at the scene. EMS transported to other passengers in the vehicle identified as 45-year-old Natalia L. Pena and a 6-year-old boy were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. They are expected to survive.

Deputies performed a DUI test on Brumley and later transported. him  into the Johnson County Detention Center on a requested charge of involuntary manslaughter, according to online jail record. He is being held on a $350,000 bond and made his first court appearance Tuesday, according to online jail records.
