Driver jailed after SUV strikes, kills Kan. man at scene of earlier crash

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal traffic crash have made an arrest.

Just after 10p.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to a traffic collision involving an SUV and pedestrian at the intersection of 13th and Greenwich in Wichita, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.

Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that 71-year-old Bill Wineinger had been involved  collision with a Ford Explorer at the intersection.

All parties involved in the initial collision sustained non-life-threatening injuries. As Mr. Wineinger exited his vehicle to assess the damage, a black Toyota 4-Runner, traveling east on 13th Street entered the intersection and struck Wineinger's vehicle.  The impact caused it to hit him. This secondary collision caused fatal injuries to Wineinger.

Police took the driver of the 4-Runner, identified as a 41-year-old woman from  Wichita, into custody and and she was booked on requested charges of Involuntary Manslaughter. Police have not released her name as they continue to investigate.

This is the 28th traffic fatality for the year.
