Prison for Kan. woman in DUI crash that killed 4-year-old daughter

SEDGWICK COUNTy — A Kansas woman has been sentenced to  prison for a crash that killed her 4-year-old daughter last year. 

On Thursday, Judge David Kaufman sentenced 33-year-old Britne Costello, of Douglass, to 6-years in prison, accoding to the Sedgwick County district attorney's office. In June Costello pleaded guilty on June 20 to involuntary manslaughter and aggravated battery. 

In February of 2023, a vehicle driven by Costello was westbound in the 20,000 Block of MacArthur in Sedgwick County with children in the vehicle, according to Sheriff's Lt. Nathan Gibbs.

A Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy and several citizens pulled Costello  and the two children from the burning vehicle. EMS transported Costello, a 4-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy to a local hospital where the girl later died, according to Gibbs.
