A Park Elementary teacher in Great Bend has been selected as the 2021 Horizon Award Recipient.

Dorothy Leidig, 4th grade teacher at Park Elementary will now advance to the statewide competition.

The Kansas Horizon Award program identifies and recognizes representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state. The mission of the program is to recognize exemplary first-year teachers who perform in a way that distinguishes them as outstanding.

Phil Heeke, Principle at Park Elementary nominated Miss Leidig.

“The biggest thing is her personal relationships and contact that she establishes with each student. She makes sure she really knows her kids. The other thing is, she really does like to teach math and science.”

The Kansas State Department of Education will appoint regional selection committees responsible for reviewing the nomination forms and selecting four elementary classroom teachers and four secondary classroom teachers per region for a total of 32 teachers.
