JOHNSON COUNTY —Police took one student into custody at Shawnee Mission South High School, 5800 W 107th Street in Overland Park Monday afternoon.
Police found the student had a firearm at the school, according to a social media report from Overland Park Police.
Another student at the school reported the firearm to an administrator. Officers were then able to take the student into custody and remove the gun.
The school was placed on lockdown until police arrested the student.
Police released no additional details but offered "appreciation to the student reporting the information to keep other students safe."
