Kansas inmate serving time for burglary, drugs has died

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Kansas inmate 62-year-old Michael Vonzell Jones died Sunday, according to the Sedgwick County Jail.

Jones, Sedgwick County inmate, was being housed in the medical infirmary for preexisting medical issues. On Friday EMS transported him to St. Francis Hospital. While at the hospital his medical condition continued to decline, and he was pronounced dead shortly before 9:27a.m. on Sunday. The preliminary cause of death is unknown pending an autopsy.

Jones was being held in the Sedgwick County Detention Facility on felony charges of Possession of Opiates, Burglary, and misdemeanor charges for theft, criminal damage to property and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia warrants through Sedgwick County 18th Judicial Courts since April 5. 

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Investigation Division were notified.
