Barton Women's Cross Country tests first long race of season at ESU Invite

A pair of freshman tested the collegiate 5K distance Friday for the first time as the Barton Community College women's cross country team ran its second meet of the season competing in the Emporia State University's Invitational held at the Jones Park Cross Country Course.

Karina Herrera led the two-pack of Cougar entries, clocking a 21:21.75 for 56th place of the 101 entries while Dixee Lacen finished fifteen spots later in 71st at 22:49.08.

The Cougars next meet comes October 9 at the FHSU Tiger Open held at Victoria's Sand Plum Nature Trail. The women's 5K is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by the men's 8K race at 9:35 a.m.

Fort Hays State won the meet behind four runners in the top seven with host Emporia State coming in second along having the first place individual placer.
