KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Justin Herbert’s touchdown toss to Mike Williams with 32 seconds to go lifted the Los Angeles Chargers to a 30-24 victory over the Chiefs. The Chargers capitalized on four Kansas City turnovers, including Patrick Mahomes’ second interception in the closing minutes. Herbert finished with 281 yards passing and four touchdowns without an interception, outdueling Mahomes in a matchup of two of the game's best young quarterbacks. Mahomes finished with 260 yards and three touchdown passes along with his two interceptions. Kansas City also lost two fumbles.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs coach Andy Reid is resting and in stable condition after being taken to a hospital following Kansas City’s 30-24 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. The Chiefs released a statement on Sunday night saying Reid was evaluated by the medical staff in the locker room after the game and was transported to The University of Kansas Health System for further evaluation as a precaution. The Chiefs have lost back-to-back games to the Ravens and Chargers and are in last place in the AFC West.

DETROIT (AP) — Kris Bubic kept up his mastery of the Tigers, pitching seven shutout innings and leading the Kansas City Royals over Detroit 2-1. Bubic gave up only two hits and a walk while striking out six. He allowed just three earned runs over 23 innings in four outings against Detroit this season. Scott Barlow survived a shaky ninth for his 16th save. Whit Merrifield had three hits and scored for Kansas City. Andrew Benintendi contributed two hits and an RBI. Tigers starter Wily Peralta carried a 16-inning scoreless streak into the game. The Royals halted it in the first inning on Benintendi’s RBI single.

CHICAGO (AP) — Make it a very sweet 16 for the St. Louis Cardinals. Andrew Knizner scored the go-ahead run on Codi Heuer’s wild pitch in the ninth inning, and the Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 4-2 for their 16th straight victory. The Cardinals’ franchise-record streak is the longest in the majors since Cleveland took 22 in a row in 2017, and the best in the National League since the New York Giants won 16 straight in 1951. Paul Goldschmidt and Harrison Bader homered to extend a streak that has rocketed the Cardinals into position for the second NL wild card, leading Philadelphia and Cincinnati by six games with six to go. Next up is a three-game series against NL Central champion Milwaukee beginning on Tuesday night in St. Louis.

UNDATED (AP) — Clemson has tumbled to No. 25 in The Associated Press college football poll and snapped its streak of 97 straight weeks in the top 10. The Tigers lost Saturday for the second time this season to drop 16 spots from No. 9. Clemson's top-10 streak was tied with Alabama for the longest current run in college football and second-longest in the history of the AP poll, behind Miami's 137 from 1985-93. The Crimson Tide remained No. 1 with 58 first-place votes out of 62. No. 2 Georgia received the remaining four first-place votes. Oregon stayed No. 3. Penn State moved up two spots to No. 4, Iowa remained No. 5 and Oklahoma slipped two spots to No. 6. North Carolina State moved into the poll at No. 23 by beating Clemson in double overtime.

UNDATED (AP) — A month into the college football season, 12 teams that were ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 are no longer in the poll. That includes two teams that were in the preseason top 10. A total of 38 teams have spent at least one week in the Top 25. The number of ranked teams to lose through four weeks is now up to 25. The most surprising development is Clemson barely holding on with a No. 25 ranking. The preseason rankings are still influencing the voters. Clemson and Oklahoma are the beneficiaries.

DETROIT (AP) — Justin Tucker set an NFL record with a 66-yard field goal, bouncing it past the crossbar as time expired to give the Baltimore Ravens a 19-17 win over the Lions in Detroit. After Baltimore wasted a 16-7 lead, Lamar Jackson threw a 36-yard pass to Sammy Watkins on fourth-and-19 to get the Ravens across midfield with 7 seconds left. Tucker topped the previous record of 64 yards set by Denver’s Matt Prater in 2013.

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) — The Ryder Cup is going back to the Americans. And they hope this is only the start. They brought their youngest team ever to the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits and delivered one of their best performances. The final tally was 19-9. That's a record rout for either side since Europe became part of the modern Ryder Cup in 1979. Dustin Johnson had the first 5-0 week for the Americans since Larry Nelson in 1979. The six rookies combined to go 14-4-3. The Americans believe this is just the start of what they say is a new generation.
