SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after a pursuit by law enforcement.
Just after 1:30a.m. March 11, a sheriff's deputy attempted a traffic stop on a Honda motorcycle in the 1600 Block of NE Quincy Street in Topeka, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.
The driver refused to stop and that initiated a pursuit. During the chase, the motorcycle crashed on the Shunga Trail near Garfield Park when it entered a pond full of sewer water.
The driver, later identified as 36-year-old Brandon S. Riley of Topeka, ran into a sewage tunnel. Deputies chased and found him in the tunnel.
Riley was arrested on requested charges of speeding, driving the wrong way on a one-way road, driving on a sidewalk, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, driving while license suspended, interference with law enforcement, driving with improper registration and with a license plate not assigned to that that vehicle. He also was wanted on a city of Topeka warrant.
