
WICHITA, Kan. - Police arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the Sunday night homicide of a 16-year-old Wichita boy.
Just after 9p.m. police responded to the 1100 block of S. Webb Road in Wichita after reports of a shooting, according to a media release.
When officers arrived, they found the teen in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to his upper body. EMS took him to a hospital, where he later died.
The preliminary investigation indicates there was a disturbance between the 16-year-old suspect and the victim, during which a shot was fired. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
Officers secured the scene while homicide investigators, K-9 officers and additional personnel processed evidence and followed leads. Through those efforts, investigators identified and arrested the boy.
The boy was booked into the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center on a requested charge of second-degree murder.
Police will present the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office.
