3 hospitalized, Kan. deputy injured after July 4 shooting

KINGMAN COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating after a shooting on July 4, in Kingman County.

Just after 1:30a.m. Saturday, sheriff's deputies responded to a report of shots fired in a rural area of northeast Kingman County, according to a media release from the Kingman County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators determined that a verbal altercation had occurred among several men attending a July 4 event. The altercation escalated and one man pulled out a handgun and fired shots. Three people including the shooter were injured during the incident. EMS transported them to Wichita-area hospitals.   The suspect was also placed under arrest. 

A Kingman County deputy was also injured in a single-vehicle crash on an unlit rural road responding to the incident.
