Ground search for missing alligator near KC school suspended

KANSAS CITY —Authorities on Tuesday afternoon suspended the on-the-ground search for a missing alligator that escaped from a petting zoo at a Kansas City middle school

The KC Pet Project reported the missing alligator has not been located and there has been no sightings or reports.

On Thursday, staff with the Kansas City Pet Project were on the scene at Lakeview Middle School, 6720 NW 64th Street in Kansas City, working to locate the missing alligator that was brought to the school by a petting zoo, according to a social media report from the Pet Project.

Authorities reported they will continue to patrol the area around the middle school, and if you have any information or possible sightings, please call the KC Pet Project at 816-683-1373 or click here to submit information online 

Lakeview Middle School did not obtain an animal shows permit from the Animal Services Division for the petting zoo, which is required per Chapter 14 of the city code.

Alligators are not allowed in Kansas City, MO per Chapter 14 of the city code. Animal Services plans to issue citations for violations of Chapter 14 of the city code to the appropriate parties.
