KANSAS CITY —A Kansas man faces felony charges for recklessly causing an automobile accident on Saturday in Kansas City that killed two passengers in his vehicle including his girlfriend and her 3-year-old child, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
Derrius L. Tolston, 26, faces two counts of Involuntary Manslaughter 1st Degree.
This crash on Oct. 14, 2023, remains under investigation and other charges are possible.
According to court records, a police officer observed in the area of Interstate 435 and Bannister Road two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed.
One of them, a Jeep, ran a red light and crashed into a Honda, that ejected the driver, Derrius Tolston.
The crash also killed his two passengers, Tolston's girlfriend and a 2-year-old child. Data from the airbag control module in the vehicle the Tolston's was driving showed it was traveling 92-94 mph at impact with the other vehicle in a zone posted at 40 mph.
Tolston remains jailed on a $500,000 bond.
