SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement and military officials are working to safely dispose of war memorabilia found at a Kansas home.
Just after 8:30a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a past burglary in the 2500 block of SE Virginia Avenue in Topeka, according to police spokesperson Rosie Nichols
First responders located historic war memorabilia that caused concern and the Topeka Police bomb squad was called to the scene.
Due to the potential of military ordinance, per protocol, Topeka Police hazardous device technicians requested the expertise of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) unit from Ft. Riley. The EOD is currently investigating the memorabilia to render it safe.
Just before noon, police said that there is believed to be no immediate danger to the public.
