Great Bend man arrested on Jackson Street for drug charges

On the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 23, Barton County Sheriff’s Office detectives and deputies executed a search warrant in the 2300 block of Jackson Street in Great Bend.

During the course of the investigation, more than two ounces of methamphetamine were confiscated. Drug paraphernalia, distribution paraphernalia and prescription drugs were also located.

A 34-year-old Great Bend man, identified as Matthew Cooley, was arrested at the scene. Cooley was transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of prescription medication.

Cooley is being held in lieu of a $300,000 bond.

Just over $5,000 cash and a Nissan pickup were seized at the scene and asset forfeiture proceedings have been initiated.
