Kansas man ran from car crash, left 3-year-old in the car

RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating an accident that occurred just after 11a.m. Saturday and have made an arrest.

A 2013 Dodge Avenger was southbound at the intersection of S. Scenic and Skyway Drive in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

The car struck the curb of the roundabout, went airborne, and came to a rest on top of the raised barrier. Officers were advised on scene by witnesses the driver had run away from the scene after the crash leaving a 3-year-old child in the car.

No serious injuries were reported. Officers were unable to initially locate the driver of the car.

At approximately 8 p.m., police located the driver, Elijah McLeroy, 22, of Junction City, near the Stagg Hill Golf Course and arrested him on requested charges of interference with law enforcement, failure to render aid, no proof of motor vehicle liability, driving while suspended, and aggravated endangering a child. McLeroy remains confined in the Riley County Jail with a total bond of $15,000.
