KANSAS CITY —A Missouri woman has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting outside an Kansas City-area motel in August, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
Courtney Joe Wilcox, 40, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.
According to court records filed Friday, police officers responded to 9800 E U.S. 40 Highway in Independence on a report of shots fired in the area.
They found a victim on his back in the parking lot of a motel. An autopsy later showed he had been shot once in the back. Wilcox was taken into custody in St. Roberts, Missouri, as a person of interest. She told police she gave the victim $1000 to buy narcotics but later came to believe he had "ripped her."
She alerted another person and he began to look for the victim. She later saw the victim shot in front of the motel. Wilcox remains in custody. A co-defendant already faces charges and is in custody.
