Kan. road construction worker injured after struck by truck

SHAWNEE COUNTY—One person was injured in a construction zone accident Monday morning in Shawnee County.

Just after 10a.m. the Shawnee County Communications Center received a report of an injury accident in the 7900 block of NW 46th Street between a pedestrian and a pickup truck, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

Upon arrival, deputies determined that a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by Samuel W. Chase, 72, Topeka, was  eastbound on NW 46th Street through a work zone where it collided with a construction worker identified Alexander Zavala, 23, of Topeka

 American Medical Response transported Zavala to a local hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries. Chase was not injured, according to Christian. The accident remains under investigation.

The Kansas Highway Patrol, AMR and Soldier Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
