3 firefighters injured battling Kansas City house fire

KANSAS CITY —Three firefighters were injured fighting a Kansas City. house fire.

Just after 10p.m. Wednesday, crews responded to report of a house fire in the 700 block of Elmwood, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

Crews reported heavy fire from a two-story vacant structure. The fire was heavily involved and extending to the homes both to the north and south and additional companies were ordered to the scene.

 The fire was brought under control at 10:44 pm.  Three firefighters sustained injuries during this operation, two were transported to local hospitals with non- life threatening but serious injuries including burns to lower extremities and one with severe dehydration, according to Hopkins.  Searches of the home came back all clear. There were no other injuries reported.

One firefighter was treated at the hospital and released and will follow up for additional care. The other firefighter was kept in the hospital overnight for fluids and treatment but should be released Thursday, according to Hopkins.

The Red Cross responded to assist two adults. The cause of this fire is under investigation by KCFD.
