Sheriff investigating 2 Kansas men for an alleged rural burglary

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a burglary and have two suspects in custody

On March 26, 2023, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a home burglary in southwest Shawnee County that had occurred sometime during the previous week while the owner was out of the state, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

Two all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) were reported stolen. During the investigation, detectives discovered information regarding possible suspects.

On March 30, a detective and a deputy arrived at a residence in the 1700 block of SW Green Acres Avenue and arrested Bryan T. Gerety, 34, of Topeka. He was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and conspiracy.

Later that day, the same detective and deputy arrived at a residence in the 3600 block of SE 9th Street and arrested Bren M. Cowles, 36, of Topeka on requested charges with possession of methamphetamine, conspiracy, burglary and theft.
