In 2017, City Clerk Shawna Schafer had one firm return a bid back to conduct the City of Great Bend’s audit. That firm was Adams Brown in Great Bend. The three-year contract with Adams Brown ended in 2020, so the city sent out request for proposals this year and received two bids back.
Gordon CPA out of Lawrence provided the low bid compared to Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk & Lyod from McPherson.
After doing some research, Schafer says Sean Gordon from Gordon
CPA responds to questions in a timely manner, not just during the audit but
throughout the entire year.
"I called four of their audit clients and they had some really great things to say about Gordon CPA," said Schafer. "Sean Gordon was previously with Mize Houser CPAs and the firm stopped engaging in governmental audits, so he left and created his own firm."
Audit bids for fiscal years 2020, 2021 and 2022 from Gordon CPA is $23,500, $24,215
and $24,950 respectively.
Audit bids from Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk & Lyod for the same three years were $33,000, $34,650 and $36,300.
The Great Bend City Council approved the low bid from Gordon CPA to handle the
city’s audit report for the next three fiscal years.
The last audit conducted by Adams Brown for fiscal year 2019 cost $28,225.
