SEDGWICK COUNTY— A suspect accused in the death of three people who died in a shooting at home in Wichita on Saturday could make his first court appearance Monday.
Just before 11:30a.m. Saturday, Sedgwick County Emergency Communications received an open line 911 call, according to Wichita Police Department Captain Aaron Moses.
A short time later, the 911 caller told the call taker that people were shot in 5,000 Block of East Blake in Wichita. Police immediately responded to the home and found three gunshot victims in the home. All three, a 49-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police investigators determined there were a total of six people and the suspect inside the home at the time of the shooting.
Police determined the suspect was 21-year-old Juan Valenzuela-Silva who left the residence in a black 2014 Infiniti QX 60. Police entered the vehicle information into the department's FLOCK license plate reader system and learned the suspect was traveling south out of Wichita.
Police immediately released details on the suspect to the public and notified the KHP and many regional law enforcement agencies. Within two hours of the shooting, deputies were able to make a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle just south of Augusta in Butler County with KHP air support overhead.
Valenzuela-Silva was arrested and transferred to the custody of Wichita Police. He is being held with no bond in the Sedgwick County Jail, according to online jail records.
Police confirmed the victims are family of the suspect. Their names have not been released. The suspect had no previous criminal history with police other than a traffic accident. There were no warrants for his arrest.
Police were requesting a search warrant for the home to further investigate what happened and why.
