Man dies in Kansas crash after motorcycle strikes a tree

JOHNSON COUNTY —One person died in an accident just before 9p.m. Monday in Johnson County.

A motorcyclist later identified as Jeffrey M. Jaques, 26,  Kansas City, Missouri, was northbound on Interstate 35 Highway towards the Interstate 635 Highway Bridge, according to Overland Park Police Officer John Lacy.

According to several witnesses, the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to crash. Witnesses stated the motorcyclist started to lose control as the vehicle entered a curve on the roadway.

The motorcycle traveled off the roadway, down a graded slope, went airborne and struck a tree. EMS pronounced Jaques deceased on scene, according to Lacy.

The Overland Park Police Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash.
